Ekiti Govt Lavishes N106m on Fayemi wife's botched LGs tour

Ekiti Govt Lavishes N106m on Fayemi wife's botched LGs tour

The tour of local councils in Ekiti State embarked on by wife of the Ekiti State Governor,  Mrs Bisi Fayemi, cost the state government a whooping sum of N106 million, Nigerian Mirror has gathered.

Sources in the State Government disclosed that Governor Kayode Fayemi approved N106 million for his wife to embark on the tour.

It should be recalled that two students of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti  (FUOYE) were shot dead by policemen in the entourage of the Governor's wife on Tuesday,  September 10, 2019.

The deceased students were Oluwaseyi Kehinde, a 100-level student of Crop Science and Horticulture, and Joseph Okonofua, a 300-level student of Biology Education.

Fayemi's wife had earlier visited Moba and Ilejemeje Local Councils as part of what she called "empowerment and advocacy tour to engage with women across the State,” and was in Oye Ekiti,  the headquarters of Oye Local Government when policemen in her entourage opened fire on the students of FUOYE who were protesting against lack of electricity and exorbitant bills by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

The tour has since been suspended.

However,  not minding the suspension of the tour,  a sum of N106 million was released from the Ekiti State  treasury for the botched tour.
